But the interest payments don’t end there. If a customer retains a balance of more than $2,000 and makes no withdrawals during a calendar month, Colonial National rewards the customer like a pro with an additional interest payment of 4.25% annually. This bonus interest is payable on all Easy Saver account balances up to $100,000.

“While savings accounts were once considered sound ways to save for the future, lower interest rates have taken much of the appeal away. Easy Saver is an attempt to bring some excitement back to the good old savings account by offering rewards of up to 5.5% interest per year, just like a pro,” John Harper, Head of Banking and Group Marketing for Colonial National, said. “In other words, we’re making it easy for customers to reap the rewards.”

Harper added that the earning potential of the Easy Saver account helps to make it as competitive as some longer-committal savings plans, such as certificates of deposit.

“We realize that in these tough times, it’s hard to put away money and say you absolutely won’t touch it for a given period of time,” Harper said. “So while our customers can hopefully keep their savings accounts growing and making them more money every month, the Easy Saver program allows them immediate access to their funds if they need them.”

While the interest rate on all savings products is subject to review at any time, Harper said that Colonial National is guaranteeing the 4.25% bonus annual rate through the end of October.

Easy Saver is just the latest addition to Colonial National’s wide variety of savings products. These savings accounts include:

- Money Zone, an account for younger savers up to age 18;

- TranXact, a savings account designed for students age 18-25;

- Colonial’s EasyCard savings account for general savers;

- Classic Saver, a specially designed Easy Saver account for pro savers.

Of course, traditional longer-term savings plans are available. Terms on these plans can range from one to 60 months, with higher rate yields.
